For those of you who don't know, i had an interview with the University of Chicago this past Friday... and here's how it went.

It's Friday morning. I wake up and shower and do my hair all nice.  My interview is at 1pm.  I'm commuting because I'm leaving to go camping straight after the interview.  I leave the suburbs to take the train at 10am, and get there at around 11am.  From Union Station, i gotta catch a couple buses to catch the nearby green line. The green line takes me straight to U of C.  Its rainy and cold, and i'm in heels, dragging my suitcase/laptop thingy on wheels.  So i'm finally on the green line, relieved that the L will take me straight to my destiation.

After about a 15 min ride, feeling uneasy already with the population around me, I hear an announcement telling us that everyone has to evacuate off of this line because there is a gas leak.  So I get off.  And I"m thinking o GREAT. I'm SMACK dab in the middle of the south side, the only ASIAN around, and I don't know where to go from here.

So I jump on another bus, only because everyone seemed to be taking it and because it seemed to be stopping at a stop I thought would get me near U of C. I sit next to a Chinese woman. Hahaha. So what if i was scared!? I'm riding down 35th, and the bus stops in front of a Bank One. I think to myself, hey i should get more cash. Everyone starts getting off at this stop -- called Martin Luther King Drive.  At this point I think - should i get off? But i dunno where i am.  I decide to stay.  So i pass up this stop with the Bank One and wait a few more stops.

Then the bus stops at what seems to be a hospital.  I get off thinking -- dood this is easy, i can hail a cab that will take me straight to U of C no problem! So i go inside and i ask the dood inside where i can hail a cab.  He directs me to what looks like a house phone and says that I gotta call for one.  So i pick up and a lady comes on the line and says she'll hail one for me at whatever address im at, and she also says that if it doesn't come in 15 mins then call back.  Okay so right now its already 12:20pm.  Interview is at 1pm.  15 mins pass by, and there's NO cab.  Great.

Okay forget the cab, i gotta find a different way to get there. I ask the dood if there are any buses running, or if there is a faster way to get there.  He says sureee but u gotta walk 2 blocks and catch the #4.  Fine. I'm totally gonna be late for this interview. So im walking two blocks, in the rain, in heels, in the south side. SWEEEET. And then i finally get to the stop im supposed to be at. And guess which stop it is...

MLKING DRIVE, right next to the Bank One. MY GOD. If only i had gotten off. OR if only i had asked.  But hey, my pride got the best of me, and i didn't wanna look like some easy target tourist.  Haha i guess it makes it more fun this way right? Gives me a good story to tell.

Okay so i get onto the #4 bus and it takes me straight to U of C FINALLY. And its 1:15pm.  I find the office and walk in all flustered, telling the secretary i had an interview at 1pm, apologizing that I'm late. (Btw i was trying to call the nurse recruiter this whole time but no one was answering).  The lady looks at me funny. She's confused.  And then she tells me that MY INTERVIEW ISNT UNTIL NEXT WEEK!!! OMG.  i tell her u dont kow how much trouble I've been thru to even get here!... She apologizes about how she told me my interview was this friday and not next.  The good part about it was that they did take me in... and i have to come in next week to meet with the manager of the oncology floor.  She was impressed with my questions and my letters of recomendations... So far so good. THE END. That's my story.  Goood story right!? haha.
